The beginning of fall endears itself to us. Even people who aren't huge fall fans tend to feel the excitement of the cooler breezes, shifting sunlight, and changing seasons. To capitalize on that end-of-summer, beginning-of-something-new feeling, I present to you three oily ways to welcome fall.
As autumn inches nearer, her biggest fans are busy whipping out their collection of fall-flavored essential oils to celebrate. For these devoted followers, it's all about Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger, and Wild Orange, with pumpkin everything. Wrap it all up in this Taste of Autumn Smoothie. The recipe makes enough to distribute among multiple small sample cups, in case a fall make-and-take is on your mind! You'll need:
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (not that sugary pumpkin pie filling, just pure pumpkin)
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie seasoning
- 2-3 drops total of Wild Orange or Cinnamon Bark oil
- 1 cup ice
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If desired, get fancy with some whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon! Note: For a completely vegan recipe, replace milk and yogurt with one can of coconut milk, and be sure to use dairy-free whipped topping.
With that sweet taste on our tongues, we realize that the kitchen is a perfect place to add another touch of pumpkin spice. There's never a time of year when a fresh bottle of personalized dōTERRA® foaming hand soap isn't a welcome addition to the side of the sink! If you're into celebrating a different season year-round, do it by swapping out the autumnal oils included in this recipe for your favorites.
Making your own foaming hand soap is surprisingly easy; you probably already have most of the ingredients. Let's be super resourceful about this and use any empty foaming hand soap bottle you may already have in the house. To make Foaming Fall Hand Soap, you'll need:
- 2 tablespoons unscented liquid Castile soap (okay, I definitely don't have this lying around the house, but some people might)
- 1 tablespoon Fractionated Coconut Oil
- 10 drops total Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger, or Wild Orange
Pour Castile soap and FCO into the soap bottle. Add essential oils. Slowly add enough water to the bottle to fill it, while still leaving room for the foaming pump. Attach the top, shake, and you're good to go! When ready to use, pump one to two times into hands and wash with warm water. Note: another fresh, winning combo of oils for this soap recipe — one which is not seasonally specific — is Peppermint and Tea Tree.
I have just one more simple idea to leave you with as you throw open those windows and welcome the scents of fall into your home. Select your favorite decorative garland, say one meant for the mantel, or a door wreath. Spritz with this welcoming Autumn Aroma Spray after combining the following ingredients in a 4-ounce spray bottle: 1.5 oz distilled water, 1.5 oz witch hazel, and a total of 30 drops of your favorite autumnal oils. Beyond the traditional Cinnamon Bark and Clove already mentioned, think along the lines of Cardamom, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Grapefruit, and Basil. Go crazy and try them all! With these aromas adorning your door and hearth, you'll be ready to extend a hearty welcome to those who enter your home, even as you prepare to welcome the new season that is upon us. With these three recipes to get you moving on your seasonal transition, all that's left to say is happy fall!
